Hi Granny Lou,
I take my Mom for a ride on Lakeshore Dr to see the lake quite often. Today...January 3, 2016 we saw 5 swans on the lake surrounded by a LOT of geese. This was in the area quite near the free park on Lakeshore. (Can't remember the name of it!). As we sat there we saw what looked like a LOT more swans quite far out. I can't imagine they were seagulls because they were too large! I took a picture of them but I still could not see them that well! Did you happen to see any of these swans today?

Swans
I live on the Northshore of the lake. We have these swans in the bays in Cleveland and Bernhards Bay. They appear right on que in November; striking a pretty pose being so white against the gray water of late fall. They have stayed much longer than usual this year; most likely due to the warmer temps and open water. They have been identified as Trumpeter Swans by my nephew who works with Cornell Lab of Ornithology - Cornell University.
I truly enjoy the web cam; it keeps me close to home even if I am away.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT COMING TO THE CAM IS HOW THE LAKE IS SO DIFFERENT EVERY DAY. THE SKY AND COLORS OF THE LAKE. NOW TO LEARN THAT EVEN SWANS COME TO VISIT. HOW ABOUT THAT LEARNING LESSON. IT'S FUNNY HOW SOME DON'T EVEN SEE THE BEAUTY. MY MOM USED TO SAY TO ME WHEN I WAS A KID WAS GET OFF THE LAKE WHEN YOU SEE THE WHITE CAPS OR A STORM IN THE SKY. Swans
Have been enjoying the swans for several years; stayed very late this year but didn't venture down in front of my house in November as they were hanging more in B Bay and Constantia. Ice so late this year that they didn't have to move. We had them at Christmas though, was so happy to have them appear again. This webcam is great. The shadows on the lake today made it look like the ice had really opened up so had to check on here to see what it looked like elsewhere. Our grass islands do have open water, hoping no snowmobilers venture out on unsafe ice this weekend....

Ducks on the dock
I am a regular viewer and have a place on the North Shore. Todays view shows the dock covered with Mallards - what a mess they leave! I've had good luck keeping them off the dock by stringing white cord between the dock supports along the edge of the dock. I run the cord (single strand) about 8" up. Interferes with their flying up, but doesn't always work. A cris-cross pattern would be even better, but interferes with your walking.

Glad I moved away 20 plus years ago, it's freezing up there. It's cold here in SC, but not THAT cold!!!!! I do love looking, just wish that I could see snowmobiles when it gets cold enough to go out on. I have never seen one, kinda miss that. Thank you for the view!!!
